Naval officers have to perform various duties at sea, in the air and ashore. Officers must be physically fit, at least 19 years old, and US citizens.
At a minimum, you must have a bachelor’s degree. You can apply for the officer program before earning your degree and at age 17. The main subjects of study vary depending on the skills of the officer.
Programs leading to the Naval Officers’ Committee include the Naval Reserve Officer Training Unit and the United States Naval Academy. There is also direct drive for other eligible candidates.

The Naval Reserve Officer Training Program offers tuition and other financial benefits at more than 60 of the nation’s top colleges and universities. Two- and four-year funded scholarships are offered. Participants also receive a monthly stipend.
2- and 4-year non-assisted programs are also offered. These are known as college programs and provide monthly stipends only during the junior and senior years.
U.S. The Naval Academy offers four-year undergraduate and advanced degree programs as a Navy or Marine Corps officer. Students get monthly salary after enrollment. Students must be single, have no children, and be on active duty for at least five years after graduation, depending on continuing training and scheduling. Admission to the Naval Academy is by appointment of senators, representatives of the President and Vice President of the United States, and the Secretary of the Navy.
The Nuclear Advocacy Program is for high school juniors and seniors (and graduates up to age 31) pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, mathematics or engineering. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree or higher may also be eligible for the program. The only requirement for the Navy is that students maintain good grades in required subjects and earn a degree. While in the program, students can enjoy many of the benefits enjoyed by regular naval officers. After graduating from college, graduate students begin their naval training at the OCS Officers School in Pensacola, Florida.
Start A Naval Academy–nrotc Exchange Program
The Aviation Officer (AOC) and Naval Officer (NFOC) Candidates program is for seniors and graduates interested in becoming naval pilots or flight officers. If qualified and accepted, they are admitted to Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola.
The Warrant Officer Program is open to all enlisted Marines who have the rank of junior or above and have completed at least 12 years of naval service. Officer-in-Charge is the senior rank for all enlisted junior officers and subordinates at all levels.
The Limited Officer Program is open to officers with more than two years of service as warrants and to those enlisted as junior officers with at least eight years of naval service. If qualified, they receive a commission as a naval officer because of their high quality and experience in the profession, but are limited to the duties of that specialty. Direct Commission Specialists in specific fields can earn direct commission as naval officers.
