The US space agency has announced that it will accept applications for its latest class of astronauts next month, the 23rd group selected in the past 60 years.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to join NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to land men (and women) on the moon as early as 2024.

Applications for NASA’s 2021 astronaut class open March 2 and close March 31. Proposals are accepted through the USAJobs website.
NASA sent out so many CVs in its last recruitment drive — more than 18,000 applications for the class of 2017 — that it made some changes this time around.
In addition to increasing educational requirements, the space agency now requires candidates to complete a two-hour online screening before submitting their applications.

This test will filter out candidates who aren’t a good fit to give NASA’s hiring team a little less headache.
As in previous classes, applicants must be US citizens and pass a rigorous physical test before being accepted.
You will also need at least two years of relevant professional experience or 1,000 hours in jet piloting.
The agency’s Artemis program aims to send at least four manned missions to the lunar surface by 2030, with the goal of eventually landing astronauts on Mars.

Part of the training requires candidates to become scuba qualified and pass a swim test to prepare them for the vehicle’s underwater activities, which they perform at the nearby Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. When NASA selected candidates for the Mercury program in the late 1950s, they required piloting experience, but today that requirement no longer exists. But if you don’t have military experience and want to be a NASA astronaut, you might want to consider getting your pilot’s license. According to USA Today, many astronauts have no military background.
