Mbah Gotho, from a small village in the province of Central Java, has documents showing that he was born on December 31, 1870, and the Indonesian records office confirmed this as accurate.

It is reported that he started preparing for his death in 1992, even making a tombstone, but 24 years later he is still alive.
Mr Gotho has official documents showing his age and the Indonesian records office confirmed his date of birth as December 31, 1870.
However, the documents cannot be fully verified and therefore Mr. Gotho cannot be entered in the registers.
His grandchildren said the pensioner spent most of his days listening to the radio because his eyesight was too bad to watch television, according to reports.

There are several other people who also claim to have broken Jeanne Calment’s record, but whose ages have not been confirmed.
The Nigerian James Olofintuyi claims to be 171 years old, while Dhaqabo Ebba from Ethiopia claims to be 163 years old, but without verifiable documents they cannot claim his title.
